I’m visiting my dear friend Isaac in Massachusetts right now. The other day we went to Crowninshield Island in nearby Marblehead for a little stroll. I thought I’d do a write-up and take you along on the walk that we took.
It’s a neat little trip! You have to time it with low-tide as the islands are only accessible via walking out on a land bridge.
And as we crossed the land bridge, a gathering of folks with their dogs led to a little distraction.
After the dogs, we kept at our stroll out to the island. The temperature was perfect and although we were a little bit after low tide, the sinking sun made the whole thing absolutely gorgeous. This next gallery of pictures comes from the walk out to the grassy spit of land that comes off the south end of Crowninshield Island. I’ve sketched it onto a satellite image to give you a better idea.

Credit to Isaac for capturing this magical moment of oceanside pollinators.
This evening was so perfect. The sky was clear and the salty ocean air was delightful to inhale. And there was something special about exploring a new place without shoes. Having the texture of the ground underneath, even when it is sometimes painful, is really a fantastic feeling. It gave the two hours a magically kinetic quality.
After the initial grassy spit, we started up on a little loop trail that winds around the main wooded section of the island. Let me tell you, fall is in full swing here. Massachusetts has a private conservation organization called The Trustees that owns many similar properties around the state. They have really helpful signs that tell you about the places that you visit! I really wish every state had a similar organization. Having these public-access properties in addition to state-owned land makes for an awesome patchwork of natural spaces across the Commonwealth. Here’s me, at the trailhead.
There were tons of little paths to viewpoints around the island and we took all of them. Because it was just fantastic.

I also caught a video of walking along the trail and looking out over the inlet. Additionally, if you like the house you see between 0:35 and 0:41 in this video, it could be your’s for a mere $18 million. Obligatory Zillow link. There’s another one for a mere $4.9 mil just down the street too if that first one isn’t in your price range.
As we rounded the island and the land bridge came back into view…it had disappeared…as in, the tide was rushing in while we were frolicking our way along the trail.
So we waded back! And that was actually quite fun. The water was brilliantly clear and you could see all the seaweed and shells that make up the intertidal zone. I didn’t really capture any great pictures of the clear water, so you’ll have to take my word for it. And Isaac captured me plodding my way through.
Crowninshield Island is absolutely gorgeous and if you’ve got the time to visit when you’re on the North Shore of Massachusetts, I think you’ll find it to be pretty special. Of course I got lucky enough to have a falltime sunset walk with perfect temperatures, but I’d love to see this place in all the seasons.
Because she’s a beauty, here’s one last take looking back at from shore.
That’s all for this post, thank you for reading! I’ve taken a bit of time since the bike trip ended to formulate what exactly I want to write moving forward. I’ve got a few different ideas, so we’ll see what I can put together in the next few months. Cheers!

Love!!! Thanks for taking me here too <3
